Emotional Freedom Technique

There is a kind of acupressure called the Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT that I discovered a few years back. It was developed as an aid to talking therapies in helping people conquer fears and move past traumatic events. In using these techniques, they found out that it could also help with physical ailments. The theory is that many physical ailments are related to our emotions. This isn’t that far-fetched an idea, since we all know how much havoc stress can wreak on our bodies!
I read the free eBook on EFT and decided to try it out on a bunch of things. What really caught my attention was how immediately and obviously it could help in certain situations. For instance, I had gone to a concert and was lying in bed afterwards, trying to sleep, but was incredibly distracted by the loud ringing in my ears. I started “tapping” on the ringing and within seconds, it had stopped completely. It was as if someone had found the volume and turned it down and then off.
I wish I could say that everything was that easy, but EFT isn’t always a magic pill. Sometimes you can tap on a physical symptom and experience relief, but other times you need to figure out the deep rooted cause behind your symptoms, which isn’t always easy. For instance, if you are afraid of spiders, you would need to tap on everything about them that scares you. Is it all of their legs and eyes, or the furry ones, or when they jump or run really fast? Are you afraid of being bitten or caught in a web? One simple fear can have so many different aspects to it and the trick is figuring them all out.
I have to warn you that some parts of performing EFT seem a little crazy and you will absolutely feel silly at first. But it really has the potential to improve your life. They have made great strides in treating PTSD with EFT. If it can help in those extreme cases, isn’t it worth a shot? This can also be a great help if you are having trouble figuring out how to forgive someone. Just “tap” on it!
